Frequently Asked Questions

What is integrative, lifestyle health care?

Integrative health care focuses on treating you as a whole person, addressing not just your symptoms but also your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. This holistic approach combines conventional medical treatments with complementary therapies like Reiki, acupuncture, yoga, chiropractic care, and meditation to help you achieve optimal health. Lifestyle medicine emphasizes the importance of adopting healthy habits in areas such as physical activity, nutrition, sleep, stress management, social connection, and substance avoidance to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic diseases. By using this approach, we can develop a strong partnership where you are in control—after all, you know your body better than anyone else.

Why would I want to pay cash for healthcare services?

Paying cash for these services can save you money, cut out the hassle of dealing with insurance, and give you more freedom in choosing your provider. This payment method might be a good option if you:

  • Don’t have health insurance
  • Have a high-deductible health plan (HDHP)
  • Have a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) or Point-of-Service (POS) plan that will reimburse some of your out-of-network bills
  • Prefer to avoid the complications of insurance claims
Should I still have health insurance?

Trinpathic Wellness isn’t meant to replace your insurance, so I still recommend having insurance for emergencies, hospital stays, specialist visits, medications and lab or imaging testing, and any unexpected medical costs. After your appointment, I can provide you with a superbill that lists your visit details, which you can try submitting to your insurance for reimbursement, but I can’t promise they’ll cover it. It’s up to you to check with your insurance company about this since I don’t handle insurance claims or submit superbills for you.

What about Medicare?

I don’t accept any Medicare plans, including Medicare Advantage plans. Here’s what you need to know:

  • You CAN’T use Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans to pay for my services or to get reimbursed, even if they tell you otherwise.
  • You CAN still use your Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans to cover your prescription medications and tests like labs, x-rays, etc.
  • We’ll both sign an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) before I provide any services. This is just a form that says you understand my services aren’t covered by Medicare.
Do you see patients from skilled nursing or assisted living homes?

No, I do not see patients in skilled nursing or assisted living homes at this time.

What should I do in case of an emergency or urgent care need?

While I can handle a lot of your healthcare needs, I’m not equipped for emergencies or certain urgent care issues, like severe injuries or heart problems. If you experience chest pain, signs of a stroke (like sudden weakness or trouble speaking), or difficulty breathing, call 911 right away. For things like severe allergic reactions, intense abdominal pain, broken bones, cuts that need stitches, severe asthma attacks, or any situation needing immediate tests or x-rays, it’s best to go to the emergency room or urgent care. I don’t want to waste your time or money by recommending an ER visit after I arrive. If you’re unsure about what to do, give me a call or text, and I’ll do my best to guide you.

What should I do if I need care after hours or on weekends?

My services are for primary care only.  If a medical problem arises that cannot safely wait until normal business hours, it is considered an emergency, and you should go to the nearest emergency room or urgent care center.  I am very accessible during regular hours and can typically see you on the same day as you request an appointment, either in person at your home or virtually through my telemedicine platform on the patient portal.

How do I schedule an appointment?

My online patient portal offers easy self-scheduling for existing clients. Follow the prompts to request an appointment. Once I see your request and approve the appointment, you will be sent some pre-appointment questionnaires and consent forms that you can fill out at your leisure online prior to your appointment. If you are a new client, please call me at 571-440-2755 so that I can get your basic information and set you up with access to the patient portal and your initial appointment with me.

How do I make a payment?

Payments are due when services are provided and can be made by cash, check, credit card, Venmo, PayPal, or through health savings (HSA)/flex spending (FSA) accounts. I can take payments through my Quickbooks account using my phone if we are together in person or I will send you an emailed invoice which has a payment link if we are virtual or doing a telemedicine visit.

What kinds of medications can you prescribe?

As a certified nurse practitioner with full prescriptive authority, I can reasonably prescribe any medications you may need for acute or chronic conditions. However, I avoid prescribing large amounts of opioids (Percocet, Oxycontin, Vicodin, etc) or benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc) due to the high risk of addiction, dependency, and overdose associated with these medications. I focus on a balanced approach to pain management, incorporating non-opioid medications, physical therapy, and alternative treatments appropriate to minimize risks and promote overall patient safety.

What is the coaching process and what do I get from it?

Through personalized health coaching, I work with you to understand your health challenges and take practical steps to improve your well-being. These sessions are all about you—we’ll create a health plan that fits your unique goals and needs. We set realistic, specific goals around anything you’d like to address such as healthy eating, improving fitness, managing stress, getting better sleep, improving relationships, and building self-confidence.  Together, we’ll figure out what you want most for your health and well-being and make a plan to get you there.  These sessions are done from the comfort of your own home via virtual video calls using my HIPAA secure patient portal.

What is Reiki? How can it benefit me?

Reiki therapy is a Japanese practice where a practitioner gently places their hands on or near your body to help you relax and find balance by channeling healing energy. It’s not massage, and you remain fully clothed during the session.  Reiki can stimulate the body’s natural healing ability and calms the nervous system.  It’s not meant to replace regular medical care but can be a great complement to it, supporting your overall health and well-being. Reiki is safe and gentle and can help in several ways, including:

  • Relieving pain, whether it’s short-term or long-term
  • Creating a sense of calm and peace in your mind and body
  • Reducing tension and anxiety
  • Lowering stress levels
  • Boosting self-awareness
  • Improving mental clarity
  • Increasing your energy levels

Reiki sessions are done either in the comfort of your own home or in an office space that I share; please text or call if you’re interested in more details.
